About Our Dojo- The Abiding Spirit Aikikai

​The Abiding Spirit Aikikai is a traditional dojo located in Crystal Lake, Illinois. We offer Aikido classes for adults and children, as well as private lessons.

Located at 829 Virginia Road, Crystal Lake, Illinois, we serve McHenry, Cook, Lake and Will Counties, IL and cities such as Crystal Lake, Algonquin, Woodstock, Elgin, McHenry, Lake in the Hills, Huntley and Carpentersville, as well as other areas.

 Abiding Spirit Aikikai and branch dojo are part of the Aikido Shimbokukai, and connected to the Aikikai Foundation and Aikido World Headquarters (Aikido Hombu Dojo) in Tokyo, Japan.

Lisa Tomoleoni Sensei, our chief instructor, spent many years training and teaching Aikido professionally in Japan. Tomoleoni Sensei, upon returning to the USA, was given permission by Moriteru Ueshiba Doshu, the world leader of Aikido, to open a dojo and teach Aikido, sharing the knowledge and experiences she gained through her time at Hombu Dojo. We do not require contracts for training; membership continues on a month-to-month basis. Also, we offer family and student discounts. Our classes are always open for observation, or a free trial. Hope to see you on the mat!
