Creative Forces at the Abiding Spirit Center

Creative development and expression can enhance healing and empowerment. A variety of means can be used to express oneself, including but not limited to writing, music, and art. Creative activities share a commitment to the "expressive action that engages emotion in a direct and physical way; an ability to generate creative energy as a healing force for mind, body and spirit; and a belief that the creative imagination can find its way through the most perplexing and complex problems and conflicts." (McNiff, 2005)

Directed by Resident Author, Michelle L. Tate

Michelle L. Tate is the Abiding Spirit Center's resident author. Michelle grew up in Chicago, the youngest of 7 and fortunate enough to be raised by one who encouraged exploration and growth in all directions.  At a young age, she began writing, influenced by things around her, both visible and non-visible.

Treasured experiences built an interest in the exploration of life and spirit energy through many avenues. These studies and pursuits continue through her practice of Aikido and Oriental Medicine.

For further information, you can also see her website, www.michelleltate.com.

healing happens
Michelle L. Tate

"Someone once threw me a line- healing is natural. Internal voice echoed and said that "healing" is not only natural, it is our business and our right. A seed already living within us, though sometimes deeply buried by the noise and experiences of our lives." MLT

Souls Unravel
Michelle L. Tate

"When someone meets your eyes for the first time with absolute fear, not of who you are, but fear of no longer knowing who you are, it will do something to your soul. I do not know what that is. If the eyes that are meeting yours happen to be in the mirror, trust that you are on your way."     MLT

Along the Way
Tate/Tomoleoni

This collection of writings on training in Aikido, a traditional mind-body art, comes from the perspective of two instructors, Michelle L. Tate and Lisa R. Tomoleoni, who see themselves as lifelong students of the art.      We get an insider’s view of training at the Aikido Hombu Dojo, accompanied by some wonderful verse.
