Exercise

Picture
Exercising both the mind and body is a necessary to reach optimum health. Exercise is important for health in Oriental Medicine theory as our bodies receive and create energy from activity and movement.
Various types of exercise can be beneficial for health. These can include Yoga, Martial Arts, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, and more readily accessible types of movement such as walking, swimming and stretching. Different types of exercise can have different effects on the body.
Oriental Medicine thought regarding exercise emphasizes concentration of the mind as the first step, and then the movement of the body follows the intention of mind to benefit the energy or correct imbalance. Therefore, exercise is not as simple as choosing an apparatus to work out some particular muscle.
It is important to choose the appropriate type of exercise for one’s condition. Having an awareness of your physical and energetic condition is necessary when choosing which types of exercise are most appropriate.
Whether you like slow and easy exercise, or something more vigorous, it is important to move the body in some fashion in order to sustain good health through one's life.

At our clinic, we often help patients to choose a type of exercise appropriate for their condition, assisting them in discovering an exercise that is beneficial to the recovery of health and long-term well-being.
